Underpainting, in which bronzer and blusher are applied before a light coating of foundation, is still a popular technique. “Underpainting was made popular by Mary Phillips, who uses this technique on her celebrity clients such as Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner,” says celebrity make-up artist Brooke Simons. “We’ve certainly moved on from harsh contours and heavy highlights and this gives a natural approach to contouring.” To get the look, start with Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer ($84), then cover with Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Contour Concealer ($51).

Pearly, luminous skin is also on trend, either with traditionally placed highlighter worn high on the cheekbones or with an all-over effect. The stalwart for luminosity is still Guerlain Météorites Illuminating Powder Pearls ($113).
