Tips and race-by-race guide for Quirindi on Tuesday
By John Schell
Selections based on a good track.
Race 1 – 1:50PM TABCORP COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1000M)
4. Bally Isle is a mare on debut, having finished a solid third in a trial at Scone. She looks to have ability and should be difficult to hold out in this event.
Dangers: 10. By Linda is resuming from a spell after a recent trial win and she looks to have the talent to give this a shake. 8. I’m A Hottie is on debut after a third in a Tamworth trial. She’s drawn wide but has the talent to overcome that. 5. Dakoda was big odds when down the track at Tamworth in May but resumes after a trial in which she wasn’t beaten far. Look for improvement in this.
How to play it: Bally Isle to win.
Race 2 – 2:25PM QUIRINDI CUP DAY 21ST FEB 2025 MAIDEN PLATE (1450M)
10. Bellini Spritz is a well-bred Dundeel filly which looked good in a couple of trials before debuting with a third at Muswellbrook when not beaten too far. The step up in distance looks made to order and she can be expected to be charging over the top of her rivals.
Dangers: 9. Halle Bee had been racing well with a couple of placings before finishing second again behind Triti at Tamworth last time out. She’s been racing well and looks ready to break through. 11. Lady Lilibet ran well on debut at Armidale and while she failed to beat a runner home at Tamworth last time out there’s no reason she can’t improve in this. 3. Everyready Bunny has a string of placings to his name either side of a spell and another forward showing is on the cards here.
How to play it: Bellini Spritz to win.
Race 3 – 3:05PM GOWINGS TOYOTA COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600M)
3. Hibiki Harmony has two wins and a second from only six starts. She has led to win her past two starts at this track and then at Muswellbrook. She only needs to repeat those efforts to be the one to beat again here.
Dangers: 1. Flying Banjo has been placed in two of his latest three starts and has a solid overall record (eight wins and 17 placings from 66 starts). Aaron Bullock takes the ride, which is a strong pointer to his chances. 2. Pacific Warrior hasn’t been disgraced in his recent runs and could sneak into the placings at best, while 4. Bit Of A Step was placed at Muswellbrook two starts ago and was midfield at Tamworth when last produced. He is not out of this.
How to play it: Hibiki Harmony to win.
Race 4 – 3:40PM BOXING DAY RACES AT QUIRINDI CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100M)
2. Romantic Love is an Astern gelding that scored a runaway victory on debut at Warren before going down narrowly when finishing second at Narromine at his only other start. He was scratched at Dubbo on Monday to be saved for this and looks the one to beat.
Dangers: 4. On The Quiet has only had five starts but has a win and a second. He was a winner at Muswellbrook two starts ago when leading and fighting on well and then battled on well to finish second at the same track last time out. 5. Off The Press was a maiden winner at Gilgandra at his second start in a race and was then midfield in each of three more starts before being spelled. He’s had two starts leading into this resuming effort and should be primed to run well fresh. 3. Calga Power was a winner at Tamworth at his second start in a race and then led them up only to finish third at this track last time out. He’s had a tick over trial leading into this and should run well.
How to play it: Romantic Love to win.
Race 5 – 4:15PM QUIRINDI ENGINEERING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000M)
2. Movin’ Denman had enjoyed a string of second placings before breaking through to score a win at this track last month when leading as favourite and holding on well to score. Kody Nestor takes the ride, which is a good pointer to his chances.
Dangers: 6. Dozen Kilpatrick has been placed in his latest two starts in much easier grade, but he has shown enough ability to be rated a place chance at least in this. 1. Sparks ran well when finishing second at Wellington two starts ago then was down the track at Tamworth. He has the
ability at his best to give this a shake. 8. Provencal was placed at Muswellbrook when last produced and she’s drawn well enough here to give a good account of herself.
How to play it: Movin’ Denman to win.
Race 6 – 4:55PM QPP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
4. Chidiac is a well-bred mare on debut and has had two recent trials in preparation. She failed to beat a runner home in the initial trial at Scone before winning the latest of them at Tamworth. She should take plenty of beating.
Dangers: 10. Play It Again is on debut for the Kris Lees stable and she’s had four trials leading into this. She won the latest of them at Wyong and is primed to perform well. 11. Real Magic is a stablemate of Play It Again and has also had four trials in preparation for this debut. She should be in the finish if she can run up to what she’s shown in a couple of her trials. 2. Mythical Moochi had his first start for the new stable when finishing second at Tamworth last time out and only needs to run up to that effort to be a factor again against this opposition.
How to play it: Chidiac to win.
Race 7 – 5:30PM ELDERS KILLARA FEEDLOT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200M)
5. Miss Nicolini hasn’t raced since June when down the track at Tamworth, but she had won a couple of races earlier in the year at Walcha and Narrabri before that. She’s had a trial at Tamworth leading into this and ran well enough to suggest she is ready to run a bold race.
Dangers: 6. Bill Peyto is a last-start second placegetter at Armidale and that followed a couple of midfield efforts. He should run well in this. 8. Injada wasn’t beaten far when finishing third at Forbes before being spelled and he’s had two trials leading into this resuming run. 3. Arliebel has three wins and as many placings from 14 starts. She’s third-up from a spell in this and gets her chance to show improvement.
How to play it: Miss Nicolini each way.
Best bets: Race 3: (3) Hibiki Harmony. Race 6: (4) Chidiac.
Best value: Race 7: (5) Miss Nicolini.
